WOLFSBURG AWARD for urban vision

Wolfsburg’s student concept competition

International student competition on the theme “Wolfsburg: City Space History”

Plakatmotiv zum Wolfsburg Award

Every two years, Wolfsburg gives out a university award that pays tribute to innovative projects relating to the city on the topic of “City Space History.” The eligible students come from the disciplines of urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, historic preservation and the arts. The “WOLFSBURG AWARD for urban vision” is open to students from all European universities.

As a complete reconstruction, the city is playing a special, much-watched role while offering unique possibilities. With its consistent implementation of all the general concepts of urban planning of recent decades and with outstanding examples of individual architecture, Wolfsburg is perhaps the most important city representing so-called post-war modernism in Europe. Founded on July 1, 1938, it emerged as a major city by the early 1970s. The award’s bestowal promotes creative ideas and planning approaches that further develop the qualities of this modern city as a physical, urban environment. In this way, the “WOLFSBURG AWARD for urban vision” is meant to add to Wolfsburg’s architectural-cultural dynamism as a model city.

Wolfsburg lies about midway on the east-west axis between Berlin and the Ruhr region. Thanks to an ICE connection and its proximity to the A2 autobahn, the city can be reached in an hour from Berlin and a half hour from Hanover.

The “WOLFSBURG AWARD for urban vision” has been allotted a total of 5,000 euros.
